It has long been said that blondes have more fun, however us light-haired gals have been ridiculed for decades with the stereotype ‘dumb blonde’ that is portrayed in films.
But, it turns out that we’ve been misunderstood all along, as research shows that women with blonde hair actually have a higher IQ. Seriously.
Researchers found that women with blonde hair had a higher IQ than those women with red, brown and black hair, by a whole three points, so bloody there. Next time someone says something clever, ask them if they’re having a ‘blonde moment’.
The research comes from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979, a national survey of people aged between 14 and 21. All the participants took part in the Armed Forces Qualification Test to rate their intelligence.
All of the females involved were asked what their natural hair colour was, and all African Americans and Hispanics were removed from the analysis to avoid any potential ethnic or racial bias in the test.
Out of all of the 10,878 white females involved in the test, women with naturally blonde hair came out with the highest average IQ of 103.2, followed by brunettes at 102.7 and red heads and those with black hair at 100.5. Very interesting indeed.
Although researchers can’t confirm the correlation between hair colour and intelligence, they did say that the reason the blonde gals involved in the research came out with a higher IQ was because they grew up in homes with more reading material than did those with any other hair colour.
