19 Clever Trips To Stop Your Makeup From Melting Off Your Face

Summer is great if you love the heat, although we all know how annoying it is when you apply a face full of makeup in the morning, only to have it melt off throughout the day.

All that hard work, just gone! It’s not fair, but thankfully there are some simple hacks to get that makeup to stay in place all day long.

1. If your makeup is constantly melting off your face, start from the very beginning of your routine to stop the problem.

Do you use a face wash that is stripping the natural oils from skin?

If so, this is bad news, as you’re just going to wind up with more oil, which means more melting.

2. Even if you have oily skin, it’s super important that you moisturize.

Seriously, moisturize at night. Moisturize in the morning. Hire someone to moisturize your face as you sleep. I don’t care! Just do it.

3. Keep your hands as far away from your face as possible.

I know it sounds simple, but for some people, it’s really hard to do.

When you have a face full of makeup, you’re ruining all your hard work by touching your face and getting oil and dirt in your pores.

4. Try icing your face before you apply your makeup.

Just run an ice cube around your skin to close all of your pores, and get your skin ready to hold the foundation in place.

5. Shop around for the best foundation that’s right for your skin.

Everyone is different, and just because a foundation works on your BFF doesn’t mean it’s going to be the best fit for you. Take the time to find what sits well on your skin.

6. Here are some great recommendations for a foundation that’s likely going to stay in place all day (but remember that everyone’s skin is different!):

Estée Lauder Double Wear, Revlon ColorStay Whipped, Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation by MAC, or Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Foundation.

7. Use a primer before applying foundation.

But be sure you’re using just a little. You don’t want to put on too much and have the rest of your makeup slip right off.

8. A good primer on your eyelids is really important, as well.

It’s also important to make sure that your eyeshadow is a powder, not a cream. Otherwise, you’re just asking for trouble.

9. Jamsu is a Korean beauty technique that a lot of people have been trying these days.

You simply apply your concealer and foundation, set it with loose powder, and then submerge your face in cold water for 30 seconds.

The cold water will give you a matte look and help you set the makeup!

10. Always, always make sure that you use a setting powder.

Your makeup is definitely going to melt off if you make no effort to keep it on! This will help lock everything in place.

11. When you apply your makeup, from your foundation to your blush and highlighter, make sure you’re using a limited amount.

The heavier a hand you use to apply your makeup, the more likely you are to sweat it off.

12. Keep some oil blotting sheets handy.

You can’t help but sweat on a warm day, and these sheets will seriously be a lifesaver when your face starts to shine. It’ll stop that melting in its tracks.

13. Also, don’t be afraid to apply a facial mist/setting spray throughout the day.

No, it’s not going to ruin your makeup. It’ll cool down your face to prevent anything from melting, and helps to keep everything in place.

14. When it comes to applying a lip color, consider choosing a lip stain over a lip gloss.

It’s so obvious, but the gloss is far more likely to melt away on a hot day, especially if you’re drinking lots of water.

15. When applying lip color, remember to moisturize first, apply the color, blot, powder, and repeat.

It’s a surefire way to make sure that your lips stay that cherry red shade all day long.

I know it sounds tedious, but it’s worth it.

16. When choosing your makeup products, keep an eye out for anything that’s oil-free.

I mean, it just makes sense. Anything else is going to sweat off your face much faster.

17. Similarly, make sure you’re looking for any product that’s waterproof.

It might be a little harder to wash off at the end of the day, but it’s not going to sweat off, and that’s what you’re looking for.

18. Make sure you’re applying sunscreen every single day.

It protects your skin from sun damage, both short- and long-term. If your skin is healthy and hydrated, it’s going to hold makeup a lot better.

19. If you have oily skin, consider trying out the Goss Method for applying your makeup.

You start out by massaging a layer of moisturizer onto clean skin.
Next, add a lotion that adds a glow to the skin, like a shimmery primer or highlighter.

Then, you’ll powder your face using a loose (not pressed!) powder.

Now it’s time to add your foundation, and you’ll find that you need much less than usual while still getting a lot of coverage. If needed, add a small amount of powder on your T-zone. The object is to give you all-day coverage, which is just what we need.
