One popular makeup brand, *cough* NARS *cough*, fell into hot water last week when it was revealed that the brand lost their cruelty-free status because they started selling their cosmetics in China.
China has a law that demands all international cosmetics sold there must be tested on animals, which is ridiculous, and this announcement made a ton of consumers stop purchasing their cosmetics.
Looking for new makeup that is still going to leave you fierce and fabulous but all without harming animals? These brands are all cruelty-free and not owned by a parent company that tests on animals. Not all are vegan, though. Curious about the difference?
Cruelty-free means that there is no animal testing done to create the product in any way, shape, or form. While vegan always means cruelty-free, the opposite isn’t always true.
Vegan means that there are no animal products in the makeup whatsoever, and most brands will include a list of options that are both vegan and cruelty-free. Many brands are cruelty-free and have a substantial amount of vegan options, but it does not include all of their products.
1. Kat Von D
Kat Von D announced in 2015 that she was working with her team to make her entire collection vegan, and until then, she has a growing guide to all of her vegan products. She herself is vegan, and has saidthat is a huge motivator to make her makeup completely cruelty-free.
2. Inika Organic
Inika is one of the most popular vegan brands and boasts being vegan, natural, halal certified, cruelty-free, and certified organic. Talk about impressive! Their collection includes everything from foundation to lipstick to highlighters and everything in between.
